Baiqian Database for Technical Terminology Standards
The Baiqian Database is designed as the digital knowledge infrastructure supporting the long-term development of the Initiative. Dedicated to the translation of classical Chinese texts and modern academic works in literature, history, philosophy, religion, and related fields, it aims to establish a standardized terminology system and an intelligent bilingual corpus platform integrating Digital Humanities and AI tools.
The Database includes three core components. First, an interdisciplinary standardized terminology system will define academically vetted, context-sensitive translations of key terms. Entries will provide definitions, variant translations, contextual examples, and semantic relationships, forming a shared lexical framework across disciplines and serving as the foundation for consensus-building in translation.
Second, the Online Interactive Translation Dictionary (OITD) will function as an open, collaborative platform. It will support multilingual term search, paragraph-level source–target alignment, and user participation under editorial review. With a public API, the OITD can integrate with translation software, research tools, and teaching platforms, fostering international cooperation and sustainable expansion.
Third, a Chinese–English “Literature–History–Philosophy” bilingual corpus database will align source texts and translations at the paragraph level. Equipped with search, tagging, and AI-assisted semantic analysis functions, it will enable terminology tracking, comparative translation studies, and quantitative research across disciplines.
Implemented in phased stages—from terminology compilation to multilingual expansion and global platform opening—the project will assemble academic and technical teams to ensure long-term stability.
Ultimately, the initiative seeks not only to standardize terminology, but to enhance the citability, accessibility, and global circulation of Chinese scholarship, building a sustainable digital bridge between Chinese intellectual traditions and the international academic community.
