| Overview | Translation of Academic Classics | The Baiqian International Exchange Program Summer Institute |
The Baiqian Initiative is structured around two closely connected pillars: the translation of academic classics and an integrated international exchange program that embeds translation within broader scholarly collaboration.
Translation forms the intellectual core of the project. It is understood not simply as linguistic conversion, but as a rigorous academic enterprise. Each selected work is treated as a comprehensive scholarly undertaking requiring careful engagement with its intellectual background, theoretical framework, and disciplinary significance. The goal is to produce English translations that are faithful to the original while fully accessible within international academic discourse. For lengthy or conceptually complex texts, the project adopts a collaborative, team-based model in which translators work alongside proofreaders and editors to ensure terminological precision, consistency, and high scholarly standards.
Complementing this core mission is the Baiqian International Exchange Program, which situates translation within a long-term framework of research cooperation and talent development. The program supports two-way exchanges for doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers, and early-career scholars between China, Europe, and North America. Participants engage in translation, editorial work, and related research, often serving as lead or core translators for project volumes. In addition, the initiative provides institutional and administrative support to partner universities to sustain stable collaboration. Funding for post-translation copyediting and indexing further ensures that published volumes meet international academic standards and achieve lasting scholarly impact.
