The FROGBEAR project is pleased to support the travelling exhibition of China Through Saskatchewan Eyes: Evelyn Potter’s 1971 Journey. This special initiative is partially funded by FROGBEAR to provide an opportunity for Western Canadian communities to learn about materials relating to East Asian Religions in contemporary Chinese history.
On display at Diefenbaker Canada Centre until June 15, 2019, China Through Saskatchewan Eyes: Evelyn Potter’s 1971 Journey features a sampling of more than 1,150 photographs taken by Potter in 1971, when she travelled to China as a member of a historically significant Canadian delegation led by University of British Columbia faculty to promote cultural exchange and understanding. Co-curated by Evelyn Potter, Dr. Liang Zhao (Ph.D.), a professor from Sichuan University (China), and Dr. Keith Thor Carlson (Ph.D.), a University of Saskatchewan history professor, the exhibit presents evocative pictures of city, farm, school, family, religious, and factory life providing an intimate view of Chinese society at the mid-way point of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution.

Panel Discussion: The Evolution of Saskatchewan’s Relationship with China

This panel discuss the genesis and development of the exhibit, China Through Saskatchewan Eyes, Evelyn Potter’s experiences as a delegate with the 1971 trade mission, the history of Saskatchewan’s relations with China, and current efforts in trade and cultural exchange between Saskatchewan and China.
