Crowther, Alice

Alice Crowther is a Phd Student at the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes working, under the supervision of Prof. Pierre Marsone, on a dissertation on the history of the administration of the imperial hunting grounds of the Qing dynasty. She has a degree in Chinese from Edinburgh University and an MA in History and Philology from the Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, where her MA dissertation (defended with distinction) was on the revolt of Nayan (1287) and its role in the consolidation of Qubilai’s authority. She is interested in how imperial and royal authority and religious beliefs manifest and interact in the landscape, and how this can be retraced for past periods, as well as in epigraphy.
