Meng Zhang is currently a M.A. student at University of British Columbia, under the supervision of Professor Jinhua Chen. Her research primarily focuses on Chinese Buddhism and Buddhist interactions between East Asian countries.
Currently, she is exploring the development and transmission of miracle tales originated from Avataṃsaka sutra and Lotus sutra, especially the series of that concerning the “unbroken tongue” and lotus flower. This research aims to figure out a host of questions regarding these tales in China on the one hand and the relationship between these Chinese tales and its Japanese counterparts on the other hand (or lack thereof).
