Zhao, Jinchao

Jinchao Zhao is an art historian of early medieval Chinese Buddhist art. She currently works as an assistant professor in art history in the School of Humanities, Tongji University, Shanghai. Jinchao earned her M.A. in Comparative Literature from Peking University and a Ph.D. in art and architectural history from the University of Virginia in 2021, and completed a joint-postdoctoral fellowship of Global Asia studies at NYU Shanghai and Fudan University from 2021 to 2023. She is completing a book manuscript that takes a contextual approach to study the Chinese reception and appropriation of Buddhist stupa worship from the third to the sixth century CE. Her other research interests include Buddhist visual narratives, early Indian art, and miniature paintings.
