何日生：從利他到覺悟 釋賢奧 2020年3月5日 攝影 Amy Wu、Sheley Kuo 2019年11月7日下午，佛教慈濟基金會人文志業發展處主任何日生教授在英屬哥倫比亞大學亞洲中心做了一場題為“從利他到覺悟”的演講。何日生教授是台灣國立政治大學副教授，目前是哥倫比亞大學訪問學者。 何教授從人間佛教的興起開始，介紹了慈濟團體的理念和實踐。在太虛大師、印順法師等的提倡下，人間佛教的理念被越來越多的佛教界人士所認同，佛教開始主動參與到社會中去。在1966年，證嚴上人創立了慈濟基金會。證嚴上人強調以實踐的方式來走這條成佛的道路，她說經是道，道是路，路要用走的。因而，慈濟基金會從一開始就強調以利他的行動踐行佛教的道路。經過多年的發展，目前慈濟有四大志業——慈善、醫療、教育和文化，並希望以這四大志業淨化人心，和諧社會，讓社會遠離災難的痛苦。何教授介紹說，位於台灣花蓮的靜思精舍是慈濟基金會的精神中心。證嚴上人和她的弟子們自力更生，通過自己的勞動維持生活，確保所有的捐贈都用於救助他人。而證嚴上人實際上就是慈濟的第一位志工。早年花蓮地區十分落後貧困，證嚴上人便帶領她的弟子們身體力行地去救助那些貧困的人。如今所有的慈濟志工也都秉持著證嚴上人的精神，自付路費參與救濟活動。 接下來，何教授具體說明了慈濟的理念。他指出，慈濟的利他目標，是要通過幫助他人來淨化自己的內心。個人正是在這樣一種實踐社會志業的過程中達到自我的實現。具體而言，慈濟的核心價值是無私的布施，即在給予他人幫助的時候，要懷著一顆無私和感恩的心。何教授還現場展示了慈濟志工在世界各地參與災難救濟和人道援助的圖片。畫面中，慈濟的志工鞠躬以表達對受助者的感恩。何教授介紹到，在2009年台灣風災中，有幾萬的志工走上街頭清理污水，三個月便為受災民眾建好了房屋。在伊朗、捷克、朝鮮等各國的災難現場，都有慈濟志工的身影。目前，有超過一千兩百萬的慈濟志工活躍在世界58個國家何地區，幫助了超過一百個國家的需要救濟的人群。何教授還特別指出，慈濟的精神也促進了不同宗教之間的和諧對話和交流。在印尼進行災難救濟的過程中，慈濟幫助當地伊斯蘭教習經院興建校舍。習經院的哈比比長老讓學校的教室裡都掛上證嚴上人的法照以表達謝意，還讓習經院的學生也加入慈濟做志工。 最後，何教授對慈濟踐行的道路進行了總結。他說，慈濟也可以說是漢傳佛教的文藝復興運動。從王朝時代後期，佛教越來越傾向於自我解脫，從而較少參與社會。直到人間佛教思想提出，佛教參與社會改革的角色才得以提倡。慈濟就是將佛教的精神運用與社會改善並提出一條佛教的道路。以往提到利他，會傾向於法施，而慈濟強調財施和法施並重的利他。何教授認為慈濟在佛教理念的基礎上，吸收了西方的科技理性和儒家的家庭觀等思想而建立起來的。慈濟也繼承了太虛大師的入世思想和印順法師的菩薩道思想，提出菩薩先救眾生再救自己，就如同地藏菩薩地獄不空誓不成佛的誓願。如同蓮花生長於污泥之中，眾生的煩惱正是菩薩成佛路上的滋養。這條道路的核心就是上文提到的無私的布施。無私的布施這個概念，實際上就包含了佛教的緣起性空的智慧，布施體現了眾生相護依存的緣起，無私也就是無我性空的智慧。然後通過懷著感恩心給予，並向眾生學習來實踐無我布施。在這樣的修行實踐中，精勤地利益眾生也就是在淨化個人的貪嗔癡煩惱和修行止觀。由此即可通向菩提心和究竟成佛的智慧覺悟。這就是靜思法脈所奉行的修行之路。回歸到本次演講的主題——從利他到覺悟，這樣一條道路將利他與個人的修行結合起來，個人的修行正是在利他的過程中得以實現，也正體現了佛教福慧雙修、空有不二的思想。 請在FROGBEAR的Youtube頻道上觀看何日生教授的演講視頻：https://youtu.be/Y1L3sbqrEUw.
