这一田野考察将锁定在河北和河南省几处现存的留有石刻经文和造像的北朝石窟遗址，包括响堂山、小南海、香泉寺、娲皇宫以及邺城地区的八会寺。现场收集的数据可以与许多敦煌抄本文献相联系。我们将特别关注文献、石刻和造像与“十地论”的发展与传播之间的关联，从历史、哲学、信仰、仪轨、制度、社会和政治角度出发，以期更具创造性地重塑一个对中国唐朝以前佛教的更完善的认识。
我们将在河南省的响堂山、小南海和少林寺进行田野考察，之后将召开有关北朝十地经论的研讨会。
这一项目将协助和引领田野考察对石窟进行研究。我们将召开研讨会，参与人员将对研究发现的出版进行审核。
